The Toronto Blue Jays may be exploring the option of bringing back Daulton Varsho as they look to strengthen their lineup this offseason, following a disappointing campaign where they did not qualify for the playoffs. Last year, the Blue Jays reached Game 7 of the World Series but lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in extra innings.
Recently linked to Varsho, who was traded to the Houston Astros for Spencer Arrighetti at the trade deadline, the Blue Jays face decisions regarding their outfield strategy. While analyst Cynthia Ryley Delaney noted the possibility of a reunion, she suggested that Varsho’s return would depend on the development of other players, particularly indicating that the team might allow Bateman to compete for the everyday center field role first. Varsho had a challenging season, hitting .221 with 12 home runs, down from his 2022 performance, where he hit 27 homers and drove in 74 runs.
Despite being traded, Varsho maintained a strong rapport with teammates in Toronto, with manager John Schneider commenting on the difficulty of his departure, highlighting the connection he had formed within the team. As Varsho enters free agency, there is a possibility he could find his way back to Toronto, even if not as the primary center fielder.
