The Boston Bruins have managed to secure five straight victories, yet a controversial decision regarding one of their top defensemen has led to discussions about potential trades. Nikita Zadorov, who signed a six-year contract worth $30 million with the team in 2024, was not included in the lineup during Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings.
Following this, Zadorov’s agent, Dan Milstein, responded to a social media suggestion involving the Toronto Maple Leafs by stating, “No he would not…” on October 18. This remark has fueled speculation regarding Zadorov’s future, despite no hints of a trade request from the player himself or any indication that he desires a departure from Boston.
Zadorov’s benching was a direct consequence of his performance against the Anaheim Ducks on October 16, where he accumulated six penalty minutes during the Bruins’ 4-2 comeback win. Following that game, Bruins coach Marco Sturm emphasized the need for improved discipline on the ice from Zadorov, who had already racked up 29 penalty minutes in just eight games, ranking him second in the NHL at that time.
Milstein’s remarks are particularly intriguing due to Zadorov’s past associations with the Maple Leafs trade market. In 2023, when he was with the Calgary Flames, a social media post hinted at a potential move to Toronto. While Zadorov’s hefty $5 million annual cap hit continues to complicate any possible trades, the focus for now appears to be on enhancing his performance rather than altering the roster.
As the Bruins prepare for their next matchup against the Dallas Stars on October 20, Zadorov’s response to his recent benching is expected to attract attention.
