Lakers Part Ways With 2 Players Ahead of Season Opener

The Los Angeles Lakers have waived Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones and Rafael Castro, both of whom were on Exhibit 10 contracts, following the conclusion of their final preseason game in preparation for the 2026-27 season.

Tait-Jones, 25, went undrafted in 2025 but previously showcased his skills overseas, averaging 15.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in 29 starts during the 2026 Latvian-Estonian Basketball League season, where he earned the Finals MVP title. He only participated in the Lakers’ recent game against the Denver Nuggets without seeing action on the court.

Meanwhile, Castro also went undrafted in 2025 but had a slightly more significant role with the Lakers, scoring two points and grabbing three rebounds in his debut against the Golden State Warriors. He added two rebounds in six minutes of play against the Nuggets.

With the Lakers needing to finalize their roster by Monday, they may be planning further adjustments. Dalton Knecht is anticipated to be a candidate for removal from the roster as the Lakers evaluate their depth and explore potential trades.
