On Sunday, a large gathering took place at West Hollywood Park as thousands participated in AIDS Walk Los Angeles, an event that has been fostering community spirit and action against HIV for over 40 years. APLA Health CEO Craig E. Thompson highlighted the importance of the event, noting it allows people from various backgrounds to unite for a shared cause. “This is a day for people to come together, remember, be community, feel as part of one, and feel like they’re making a difference and positive change,” he stated.
The event attracted numerous entertainers, including singer David Archuleta, who expressed his joy at being part of such a heartfelt occasion. Actor Joel Kim Booster emphasized that events like this remain critical in raising awareness and combating stigma. The community’s continued commitment is underscored by leaders like LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, who pointed out the potential threats to HIV funding from federal policies. With nearly $100 million raised since 1985, APLA Health is still working to reach this year’s goal of $1,025,000, encouraging donations at aidswalkla.org.
