Rory McIlroy Issues Personal Statement After Historic TGL Trade

Boston Common Golf made golf history on Monday by acquiring Shane Lowry, the 2019 Open Championship winner, from The Bay Golf Club. This marked the first trade in the history of TGL, as reported by ESPN. Following this significant deal, team founder and six-time major champion Rory McIlroy released a personal statement expressing his perspective on the momentous change.

In exchange for Lowry, The Bay Golf Club received Boston Common’s fourth selection for the current roster formation, along with one future selection across the next three offseasons and additional commercial considerations, according to the PGA Tour. McIlroy emphasized Lowry’s competitive spirit and contributions to the team, stating that they aim to secure a championship for Boston. Boston Common will kick off its schedule on January 2 against Los Angeles Golf Club, allowing McIlroy and Lowry to debut as teammates.
