Injury to NFC Contender Opens Door for Jaguars Trade

The Jacksonville Jaguars are faced with a crucial decision regarding wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., particularly after benching him recently. Following their bye week, there’s a strong possibility he could be rendered inactive. The Los Angeles Rams now find themselves in need of assistance at the wide receiver position, following the injury to Davante Adams, who is expected to be sidelined for six to ten weeks due to a hamstring issue.

James Gladstone, the Jaguars’ General Manager, has a prior relationship with the Rams, having worked with them from 2016 to 2024. This familiarity could facilitate trade discussions as both teams assess their current needs. The Rams, sitting at 2-4, may be hesitant to trade but have already sacrificed a first-round pick for Myles Garrett, leaving them with limited options if they aim to improve this season.

With Puka Nacua leading the Rams in targets, the absence of Adams has made the need for depth more apparent. Konata Mumfield, the next in line, is far behind in targets, which necessitates a strategic acquisition. Thomas, currently on his bye week, could potentially acclimate to a new team before a challenging stretch of games, providing an opportunity for the Rams to pivot their season.

For the Jaguars, the timing of a trade for Thomas is critical to preserve his value. With Travis Hunter stepping up and performing well, it seems likely that the Jaguars will focus on younger receivers moving forward. This creates urgency for both franchises to explore a trade that could benefit them in the short and long term.
