Ex-Washington Basketball Forward Blazing His Own Unique Coaching Trail

Jernard Jarreau, a former power forward for the Washington Huskies, has embraced a coaching path that connects him back to his Louisiana roots after his college basketball career. Standing at 6-foot-10, Jarreau played from 2011 to 2015, starting 29 games and appearing in a total of 53 for coach Lorenzo Romar. During his time at Washington, he averaged 3.9 points and 3.4 rebounds across his playing seasons, with a redshirt year in 2011-12. Afterward, he returned to Louisiana to conclude his college career at Tulane under coach Ed Conroy, where he achieved personal highs with 7.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. However, the team’s overall performance did not meet expectations, finishing the 2015-16 season with a 12-22 record.

After playing professionally for the Windsor Express in Canada, Jarreau returned to New Orleans to foster local talent and begin his coaching journey. He worked for Collegiate Academies as a physical education teacher from June 2023 to 2025, which led him to becoming the head coach for the boys’ basketball team at Livingston Collegiate Academy. His team finished with a record of 7-30. Instead of letting this season detour his ambitions, he enrolled at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in May 2025 and took on a graduate assistant coaching role under Quannas White. Promoted to video coordinator for the team, Jarreau now plays a pivotal behind-the-scenes role, providing essential analysis that will aid in the development of the Ragin’ Cajuns. Next season, he will face off against former teammate Will Conroy when UL Lafayette travels to USC on November 22.
