The New York Yankees faced elimination from the postseason after being swept 3-0 by the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series. Following this setback, the Yankees must make critical decisions for the offseason, including the fate of former Rookie of the Year Luis Gil.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post suggests that the Yankees will actively seek to trade Gil prior to the November 20 contract tender deadline. With Gil projected to earn around $2.3 million in arbitration, the Yankees are considering whether to retain him or move on, as the team’s plans do not seem to include him in the starting rotation for the upcoming season. If a trade does not materialize, there is a possibility they could opt to non-tender him, allowing him to become a free agent.
