A strong October storm is on track to hit Southern California, bringing widespread rain and the possibility of thunderstorms, as well as an increased risk of localized flooding, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
The storm, currently located off the Oregon coast, is predicted to move south along the California coast before turning inland between central and Southern California on Thursday. The NWS indicated that rainfall amounts could range from 1 to 2 inches in some areas, with a flood watch likely due to expected heavy downpours. Rain may begin as early as Tuesday night, but the most intense thunderstorms are forecast for Wednesday night into Thursday. Temperatures are also set to drop, following a period of unusually warm weather and Santa Ana winds, with daytime highs forecast in the mid-60s to lower 70s for much of Los Angeles County and cooler temperatures in Orange County.
