The Chicago Cubs are perceived to be in need of bolstering their starting pitching as the offseason approaches. While there is considerable focus on high-profile starters in free agency and trades, the Cubs may also have opportunities to acquire talent at a lower cost.
In a recent analysis by MLB writer Kerry Miller for BR.com, he suggests that the Cubs consider trading for Los Angeles Dodgers starter Gavin Stone. Stone, 28, has not pitched in Major League Baseball since 2024 due to shoulder injuries that sidelined him. Despite these setbacks, he remains a promising option. Miller highlights that while the Cubs have significant roster needs, they might have the budget to enhance their rotation, especially considering Stone’s potentially low trade value due to his lack of experience. He has pitched 171.1 innings in MLB across the 2023 and 2024 seasons, achieving a 4.52 ERA over 29 starts.
