Trade Pitch Has Montreal Canadiens Add $31.25M Center in Blockbuster Deal

The Montreal Canadiens are on the lookout for a reliable second-line center, a move that could solidify their chances as Stanley Cup contenders. According to a proposal by Heavy.com, a trade could see the Canadiens acquire Quinton Byfield from the Los Angeles Kings. This significant deal would require Montreal to part with prospect Michael Hage, goaltender Sam Montembeault, and a first-round pick in 2027.

Byfield, currently in the third year of his five-year contract worth $31.25 million, has faced challenges this season, recording only 2 points in 6 games. As a second overall pick in 2020, he was anticipated to take on a leading role following Anze Kopitar’s retirement but has been demoted to the second line. In exchange, the Kings would gain a promising prospect in Hage, an NHL goalie in Montembeault, and a potentially valuable first-round pick.
