Boston Celtics’ New Center Takes Surprise Overseas Step

The Boston Celtics made a surprising move at the developmental level by acquiring G League rights to veteran center Christian Koloko, alongside Osayi Osifo and Donovan Williams, in a trade with the Austin Spurs on October 15. Koloko, who has 122 NBA appearances, was waived by the New Orleans Pelicans before the trade, but now he has decided to pursue a career overseas by signing with Crvena zvezda, also known as Red Star Belgrade, a top Serbian team.

It’s important to note that the Celtics only obtained the G League rights to Koloko and his counterparts rather than signing them directly, leaving the possibility of their return to the Maine Celtics open. However, all three players have opted to continue their careers internationally, with Osifo joining Cedevita Olimpija in Slovenia and Williams heading to Lebanon’s Al Riyadi.
