Atwater Village residents to meet after coyote bites toddler

Residents of Atwater Village, a northeast Los Angeles community, are coming together to discuss strategies to prevent future encounters with coyotes after a 16-month-old child was bitten by one. The incident occurred on Friday in the 3300 block of Glenhurst Avenue, prompting a response from California Department of Fish and Wildlife officers.

The toddler was treated at a hospital and released. Following the incident, a coyote was tracked and killed in the area, although it hasn’t been confirmed whether this was the same animal involved in the attack. Local residents have reported seeing a coyote known as Wylie, with some suggesting that it may have been fed by people. A community meeting is set for Tuesday to address concerns about increasing coyote sightings and how to ensure the safety of both residents and pets.
