Evacuation orders and alerts are still in effect as firefighting crews work to control a rapidly advancing brush fire in far western Malibu, intensified by hot and windy conditions, officials reported on Friday.
The Bryson Fire, which started near Mulholland Highway and Encinal Canyon Road in the Santa Monica Mountains shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday, has expanded to over 140 acres and is 39% contained by Friday afternoon. The Encinal Canyon area near Trancas Canyon is under a mandatory evacuation order, while nearby locations such as Zuma Beach are experiencing evacuation warnings. Relevant evacuation updates can be found on the Genasys Protect website.
An emergency shelter has been established by the Red Cross at Agoura High School, located at 28545 West Driver Avenue. Small animal evacuations can be directed to the Agoura Animal Care Center, and large animals are accepted at the Pierce College Equestrian Center in Woodland Hills.
No injuries have been reported, and officials confirmed that no structures have been lost. Gusting winds between 20 and 30 miles per hour are challenging fire containment efforts, which include more than 300 fire personnel and aerial support. As the red flag warning remains in effect until Saturday evening, precautionary measures are encouraged.
